SOA Members' Frequently Asked Questions Q: How can I know the latest news of The Schools Operating Authority? A: You can take a look at our website. We update our activities information regularly. Besides, The Schools Operating Authority will mail, email or fax the latest news to the User Unit. Q: How could I know the activities meet the requirements? You can ask your User Unit Leader or refer to “The Hong Kong Award for Young People Hand book”. Q: Can I complete one activity for both the expeditions and residential project sections? A: No! (Do not take the shortcut!) If you are willing to join the scheme, why not complete one more activity to face different challenges? Q: Should I complete all the activities within three months after I have received the record book? A: Basically there is no time limit. You can therefore decide when you finish them, but remember, you must complete all of them before your 25 years old birthday! Q: I have been participating activities outside schools for a long period, but without record. Can I put all these records back in my record book? A: The aim of the scheme is to help participants achieve their goals, so the activities they complete before getting the record book should not be taken into account, except that these activities are completed before three months they get the record book and meet the requirements of our regulations. Q: What can I do after I have completed all the sections? A: Please inform and give your record book to your teachers after you have completed four sections. If you wish to achieve the Bronze Award, your teachers would help you apply for a Bronze Award Certificate. If you wish to achieve the Silver/Gold Award, you teachers would help you apply for the certificates and the office will arrange you to attend the Silver Award giving ceremony (held twice per year)/Gold Award giving ceremony (held once per year). Q: What should I do if I lost my record book? A: You must first inform your teacher (the User Unit Leader) who will help you apply for a new record book. (HK$35 each). The fees: Bronze Award certificates/pins: $100 Q: Do I have to participate your activities through teachers? A: Yes, because you must be approved first before starting any activities. Q: What should I do if I have to switch school? A: You can inform your teacher (the User Unit Leader) about this. If your new school is one of the User Units, you can continue on your scheme there. If not, you have to decide whether you switch to the other User Units or continue in your old school, just depend on your situation. Q: What should I do if I want to alter my personal information? A: You can inform your User Unit Leader who will help you filled in forms and send them to the Schools Operation Authority. Q: I have already completed five sections, but I will study abroad. How can I get my Gold Award? A: You can inform your User Unit Leader and send the log book, record book and plan to us through your teacher. You also have to hand in the completed form “ Notification of Attainment of Silver/Gold Award”. Since you cannot attend the Gold Award giving ceremony, you can choose to take the prize on your own or by someone else. Q: I have already completed the Bronze level and intend to start the Silver level, do I need to buy a new record book? A: No. Every participant only has to buy one record book for recording the activities of the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. |
