Q: Do my students need to take part in your activities in order to get the different levels of Awards?

Q: Do my students need to take part in your activities in order to get the different levels of Awards?

A: It is not necessary. Students can take whatever activities to complete their Awards provided that the activities chosen meet the requirements of the Hong Kong Award for Young People.

Q: Do schools need to buy insurance when students participate in the activities?

A: The AYP HQs buys insurance for every participant, i.e. holder of AYP Record Book.

Q: How can the Award assist in the development of the participants?

A: The Award is a programme universally designed to meet the needs and interests of all young people. It embraces a very wide range of adventurous, cultural and practical activities which young people may choose to participate voluntarily under the guidance of adult volunteers. Through a gradual series of experience in the diversified activities offered, young people will learn the value and importance of self- discipline, independence and perseverance.

Q: What are "Operating Authority" and "User Unit"?

A: Operating Authority are organizations registered under AYP in promoting and implementing the Award Scheme. SOA is one of the 17 Operating Authorities (OAs). User Units are the branches of these OAs. Schools are the User Units of SOA.

Q: How can we be one of the User Units under SOA?

A: Principals or teachers must fill in the application forms after understanding the vision and mission of our scheme. Schools must meet the following requirements in order to be an User Unit:

  1. Your school should work in compliance with AYP's spirit, rules and regulations;
  2. At least one teacher to be the User Unit Leader; and
  3. A board for posting the AYP information.

Q: Can I take the role of an User Unit Leader if I am not an Award holder?

A: Yes. You can be the one provided that you are familiar with the Scheme and you are enthusiastic to work for the well being of our young people.
