The Award Scheme is a programme universally designed to meet the needs and interests of all young people. It embraces a very wide range of adventurous, cultural and practical activities which young people may choose to participate voluntarily in their own time, under the guidance of adult volunteers. To gain an Award, the participants have to fulfill the requirements of the different sections of activities, namely Service, Expeditions, Skills and Physical Recreation. (Gold Award participants have to take an additional Residential Project.)
The Scheme encourages young people to go out and experience the world around them, to provide service to others, to train physical strength, to have a spirit of adventure and discovery, to develop personal interests and social skills.
Through a graduate series of experience in the diversified activities offered, young people will learn the value and importance of self-discipline, independence and perseverance. They will also become more mature with a sense of responsibility which will help them throughout their lives - at home, at work and as a useful member of the community.
